Chapter Two – The Farm - Nightfall (1)

The Mark family, Andrew Mark, the eldest among twelve brothers and sisters, married and he had three boys and two girls.  Andrew father gave them a piece of farm land.  It was one hundred heckle.  It was a fruit farm land. The farming business was given to him; the land title was registered under all his brothers and sisters.  The farmland was planted all fruit trees, the dragon fruits, durian, mango and many other tropical fruits.

It was a hilly land, the farmhouse passed on to him; it was built on one of the hill peaks.  The peak so chosen was the highest among all hills under their land.

The night, a clear sky night; the stars were all hanging up there, twinkling and shining, competing each other with the best of their beauties and charms.  The worms’ noises, the sound of the wind, no radio, no TV and no loud and noisy human voice. It was music, a natural music to be appreciated by nature lovers.

Grandma broke the silence of human voices “Andrew, your father made a right choice, passed the farm business to you” Andrew had nothing to say.  Grandma “You do love nature and you had tendered great care for the fruits trees” Andrew replied “But ma, problems are coming” Both the mother and son, sitting on the swings in front of their house. Overlooking the hilly fruits farms with the help of the silver in color of moonlights, they were used to have such a small talked as mother and son after dinner.

Andrew was sitting on the one seater swing and the swing was facing hills of lower and higher full of fruits trees, bathed with rays of crystal clear moonlight. Grandma was sitting on another swing; it was six seater swings she was sitting.

There were stone stool beside the stone table and others. There were vegetable planted at the both sides of the house.  The backyard was huts and sheds for chickens, ducks, geese and others.  The front was having swings, stone table and stools, wooden long table and wooden long chairs.  All the swings, chairs and tables were artistic designed and matched with farmhouse and surroundings atmosphere. . There was small flower nursery.  Car parking space was down hill just at the front of the house, a path from the car park, passing up through the flower nursery to the front house.

Grandma “Andrew are you saying….., or, you do believe Alice that Peter was trying to harm me” Andrew “Ma, I did not say that” He paused and continued “This morning he came to see me” Andrew’s remarks startled her, she said with uneasy tone “That son!, what he wanted from you” Andrew “He gave me a letter and verbal warning from his accomplish!” Grandma “Don’t say that, Andrew, he is your brother, uh…from whom?” Andrew replied “One of the housing and theme park developer” Grandma kept quiet and waiting for Andrew to continue, Andrew said “He warned me that harm to all of us would continue until we sell the farmland to the housing and theme park developer” Grandma expressed surprised and angry “How dared he gave you such an warning, what did the letter said, it is also a warning letter?” Andrew “Ma, the developer is a public listed and international company, it is only an offer letter for our farm land, and the terms are set in such a way, they are totally to our favors.”

The registered owners of the farm land was under all his twelve brothers and sisters but it was stipulated in his late father will that he had the absolute power for the usage of the land for the farming business. Andrew did receive another letter earlier and consulted all his brothers and sisters.  All of them held the view that it was not the right time to sell off the farmland except Peter mark.  The fruit farm earned quite a handsome profits, he could use the profits to support all his nephews and nieces for higher education plus living a life not luxury but comfortably.

Alice came out from the house, bringing along with her, a jar with few big bowl type cups. “Grandma, Dad, mom make some fruit punch” Grandma “Good I am thirsty” Grandma and Andrew moved to the stone stools and table. Granny, father and daughter, they were all sat on the stone stools and enjoying the fruit punch. Andrew “Alice where is your mother?” Alice “She is preparing some other snacks and she will join us later”

Grandma detected Alice was having an uneasiness feelings “Alice what’s wrong? You look a bit pale” Alice forced herself to smile and said “Nothing grandma”
